Lindores Abbey, Wedding at the Whisky Distillery | Morven + Stuart
Lindores Abbey Distillery – quirky wedding venue
Morven & Stuart’s story is the last one on my blog this year! The couple really made the day their own by choosing a quirky venue for their ceremony – Lindores Abbey Distillery in Fife. Yes, a Scottish whisky distillery wedding venue! It was my first visit to this place as a photographer and I loved it.
Morning preparations
However, the day started back at the Glasshouse in Newburgh. A luxury accommodation with views to die for. Just check out those rolling hills and barley fields, oh and the trampoline that the bridesmaids tried out just for fun. Morven and her beautiful ladies were made up by the lovely Danni Burnside and Calm Hair & Beauty. The bride wore her hair half up with a gorgeous headband that fit perfectly into the boho vibes. Her dreamy wedding dress was from Pan Pan Bridal and the beading detail was incredible. The wildflower bouquets of pink, white and lavender colours were made by Cordon Farm Flowers.
Best locations for photos around Lindores Abbey distillery
Once ready, we all made our way to the Lindores Abbey Distillery. It’s not only a great space for events but the abbey ruins next to the venue serve as a great backdrop for wedding photos. But first, the ceremony.
It was held in a stunning room with high ceilings and windows covering one side. The bride and groom said their vows in the shadow of the huge copper stills overseen by the lovely Mo Ackroyd, a Humanist Celebrant. The groom and his men wore traditional kilts and the couple used their family tartan for the handfasting.
After the ceremony, we took the opportunity to take some photographs on the grounds of the distillery. The guests mingled with glasses of fizz, beers and of course whiskey! The old ruins were an idyllic backdrop for our romantic portraits of Stuart and Morven, surrounded by greenery and old stone.
Family farm wedding reception
The reception took place in a marquee at the bride’s aunt and uncle’s family farm and it was beautifully planned. A wildflower farm wedding at its core. There were plenty of flowers decorating the tables and marquee, both made by the professional florist and handmade by friends and family. A true team effort.
The catering was provided by Gourlay Catering and the food was seriously amazing – shared platters are always a great idea. The speeches were filled with laughter. I loved all of the personal touches like being piped into the room by bride’s brother and even Morven performed a song for her new husband. The guests partied into the night to the sounds of Sugar Honey.
I really like weddings like this one – relaxed, garden weddings with a completely personal vibe.
